Auction Report – Hewstown Farm
Hewstown Farm was offered for sale
within the Shepherds Inn at Rosehill, Carlisle, in Three Lots and
as a Whole at 3pm on Wednesday 4th June 2008.
Lot 1 comprised the four bedroomed farmhouse, the range of traditionally
and more modern farm buildings, the farm access lane and adjoining
grazing and woodland extending to 9.28 acres (3.76 hectares) in
all and this was bid to £300,000.
Lot 2 comprised 38 acres (15.38 hectares) of temporary and permanent
grassland together with a grazed wooded bank adjoining the River
Lyne and half of the width of the bed or the river adjoining the
land and this was bid to £150,000.
Lot 3 comprised 44.08 acres (17.84 hectares) of temporary and permanent
grassland and this was bid to £170,000.
The farm was then offered for sale as a Whole and was bid to £650,000
whereupon it was withdrawn from the sale before being sold to the
highest bidder at an enhanced figure immediately after the auction.
The farm was bought by a farmer from County Durham.
